Altered Canvas

     I haven't gotten inky in a while because I have been gutting out my scrap room for at least 2-3 weeks now.  I am pretty much done with it other than sorting and organizing some paper packs. I will post those pictures next.
      I sat down today to make my daughter a birthday card but found this old canvas that I wanted to create over top of for some time now.  I had bought it at a dollar store and it had a cute little country scene on it but I knew I could just make it my own with my new metal distress paints.
     That is how I created the background using antiqued bronze, brushed pewter and tarnished brass.  I sprayed them with water and let it run then dried it. I first took my mover and shapers hearts and imprinted into the semi-dried background and I liked the effect.  Then I outlined them with the black distress marker and spritzed it to wick it out.  But later I found some brown paper that had love words on it so I ran those through in the heart shapes and glued them in place over the imprints with glue and seal.  I used glue and seal to adhere all of the torn and tattered paper pieces and I distressed the edges and applied walnut stain to these edges.
      I ran a piece of paper through the brick embossing folder and applied rusty hinge distress ink over the embossing.  One of the pieces I ran through the large ticket movers and shapers die and stamped Tim's Admit One stamp using black archival ink.
      I adhered a piece of film strip to a piece of dictionary tissue tape using glossy accents as the adhesive.  I rolled stamped the spots in black archival ink on different parts of the canvas edges.  I stamped with the key blue print stamp in the upper right hand corner. I stamped the art brushes on the upper edge of the canvas using black archival ink.  I had this metal number one and I applied broken china, peeled paint, vintage photo and picket fence distress paint to it.  I sprayed it with water to get it to marbleize then I dried it.  I then sanded it and used black soot distress paint to outline the edges.  I adhered it with glossy accents as well.
      I used picket fence paint dabber to the metal embellishment so that the love stands out.  I adhered it with a long fastener as well as the book plate.  I attached a fragment over the word remember using glossy accents.   I stamped over the notebook paper so that part of the sentiment was on the canvas and the majority of it was on the notebook paper.
      I applied rock candy clear crackle paint over top the entire canvas then after it crackeled I applied walnut stain and wiped it off just so the stain got into the cracks.  I then added some of Tim's rub ons onto the left side of the canvas.  It is much better in person than the camera shows. The camera just cannot pick up the crackle texture very well.   I love the texture so I hung it in my scrap room!

Pocketwatch Mini Album

I was in love with this pocketwatch mini album that Shelly Hickox made, http://shellyhickox.blogspot.com/2013/04/pocketwatch-engagement-mini-album.html,j and ran to her tutorial in hopes to make one myself. I am so pleased with the outcome! I am giving this to my daughter and her fiance for an extra wedding gift. It displays the engagement pictures that my other daughter photographed for her. I love this idea and hope to make different themes and designs of the same pocketwatch. Your idea is so fantastic Shelly! Kudos to you for sharing it!

Luggage!

                                                

  If you follow me you know that my daughter is getting married this summer.  Well, her future mother-in-law is hosting a shower for her in New York.  That is a 6 hour drive for us in Ohio.  I decided to buy my future son-in-law his luggage since my daughter got hers from her brother at the shower that we hosted last month.  I don't have room in my car to carry the huge luggage with me and they certainly won't have the space to bring everything back home with them.  So I decided to make some luggage out of grunge paper since it takes on a leathery look.  I painted them with the new distress paints and I hinged them together with Tim Holtz's mini and long fasteners.  I cut the leather strap from Tim's die cut Hardware Findings.  I used Black Soot  and Walnut Stain distress paint.  I put a note in the package explaining that her fiance is going to have to pack lightly for the honeymoon since they are so small. Ha! 
    I made this tag to add to the package using Broken China, Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed and Black Soot distress paints for the background.  I then used black distress ink to edge the tag.  I used archival black ink to stamp the hearts and "love" stamps and immediately dusted Broken China Perfect Pearls over it.  After dusting the Pearls off I re-stamped it with archival ink.  Depending on your angle you get two different looks.  I used distress stains and paints to color the crinkle ribbon. Loved experimenting with the new distress paints!

March Tag 2013

Here is my entry in Tim Holtz's Tags of 2013 Challenge.  (http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2013-march/ )  I didn't think I would get it done but I did! Yay!  I don't have the bunny mini die so I decided to use another forest animal that I did have...the mini deer.  I was out of silver tinsel so I put my black tinsel to work.  The sentiment is a play on the words that nobody is home. ( heh, heh, heh )  I love how the distress paints colored the metal foliage.  I also improvised with another grass die that I had.  I haven't seen Tim's in a local store as of yet.  Happy Easter everyone!

Tattered Floral Challenge

I decide to make another tattered floral project and came up with this clock!  The center flower is puffed up in the center.  I folded a piece of card stock accordion style to mount it on so it makes it stand up like that.  I used glossy accents on the hearts in the corners and a dab of turquoise and yellow stickles.  I also used glossy accents on the clock hands.  The bottom of the flower was painted with mustard seed distress paint and then stamped on top of with a background stamp. The other 3 petals were cut using grunge board and painted with black, weathered wood and picket fence distress paints. I also cut flowers from a ribbon that was clear with blue snowflakes on the thin netting ribbon.  I applied this thin ribbon while the flowers were wet with the distress paint that had been spritzed with water.  I allowed them to dry into place.  I like the texture this created. I pierced the centers and pulled a piece of blue tinsel through to create the flower stem.  Thanks for stopping by and checking this project out!  Have a great day!

Tattered Floral Challenge

     Well, I had to get inky today.  I have been in wedding mode as my daughter is getting married this July and I was starting to miss my inky fingers very much!  So, I finally completed some tattered floral challenge entries for Tim Holtz's blog.( http://timholtz.com/tattered-floral-challenge/ ) You can't win if you don't play!  I used all kinds of Tim Holtz dies for this one.  The Tattered Florals Small Easel, Picture Wheel, and Sewing Room were put to use in this project. I used Distress Paints to paint the dress form which is cut out of thick card stock.  I then stamped a background stamp over top of it.  I love how the stamps just "pop" on top of the distress paints.  I mounted it onto a small easel using pop dots and made another small easel folded the opposite way and attached the 2 together so that It could stand on its own.
     The picture wheel is cut out of a metal sheet and I embossed it using the Riveted Metal embossing folder.  I then used pitch black, copper and silver alcohol inks to color it.  The tattered flower attached to the picture wheel was cut out of glossy paper and then colored using various alcohol inks.  I inked the edges of the flowers and most of everything because I like the depth that it creates.  I used a hitch fastener for the center of the flower.
     The bottom small flower was cut from grunge board and painted with distress paints and spritzed with water and then the edges were inked using black paint dabber. The center is just a covered button that I had.  I added the tissue tape to hide where the 2 small easels were glued together and I used walnut stain distress ink over the tape.  I added the blue tinsel scarf on the dress form to dress it up!  This was funky and fun to make!

Wedding Card Box

Well, I finally finished my daughter's wedding card box.  It was more of a challenge than I thought.  Her color is peacock so I found material that would match her bridal party's dresses.  I have to admit that I got my inspiration from someone else on an etsy shop but I do not remember who it was.  I changed it up a bit by using the peacock jewels and adding the bows behind them.  Making this was not an easy task and I will say that I am not looking forward to ever doing it again! Ha! (I do have two other daughters so I may have to repeat it two more times.)  I am happy with how it turned out. 

Card Box

I am going to make a wedding card box for my daughters wedding and decided to practice on two little boxes but was pleasantly surprised by the result.  Since her theme for her bridal shower is Peacock I decided to cut a peacock out using the Art Nouveau cartridge and added it to the front of the boxes.  I am sure we can find a use for this box at the shower with no problem. This was fun!

Hanging Canvas

I made some small hanging canvas with a message. (Embrace your home, Cherish time and live in the moment, Search new places and laugh, Have heart the journey is worthwhile.) I sprayed the backgrounds using Dylusion sprays.  I then used distress ink over that.  I love grunge so I used my Tim Holtz die cuts and cut many different shapes and utilized them into the message.  I used 7 gypsies hooks to hang them together.  So fun to do!  Pardon the pictures...they were taken with my phone.

CC "Create your color spray"Challenge

Here is my entry into January's CC "Create your color spray" challenge.  This is actually the cover of a mini album that I am making. I had to improvise with tape on the edges after the stickyback canvas shrunk after spraying.  You can always fix your mistakes one way or another!

January Tag 2013

I had to start the new year off right by making Tim's January tag 2013!  I love the layers and since I usually don't use the gears much this was one way to use them.  I had to improvise a bit.  I didn't have the gear die cut but I had the embossing folder so I embossed some grunge and cut them out with scissors and a exact-o knife.  It works!  Now ....looking forward to February's tag. :)

Tim's B-day

Here is my submission to Studio L3's birthday cards for T!m.  I used a giant tag and folded it up to create a pocket in which I inserted a tag.  The houses, trees, and deer are popped up using pop dots so the dimension is very cool in person more so than the photograph.  I had fun making this card by using many of his techniques and die cuts.  He deserves a happy birthday from all of his fans! 

Giant Tag

I love the new giant tags that Tim Holtz has introduced!  They are so fun to create on.  I used festive berries and evergreen bough distress inks for the background then used vintage photo around the edges.  I stamped the new blueprint snowman, the lamppost, and the background trees and snowflakes using black archival ink.  I then painted the snowman hat, holly, nose, arms and scarf and light in the lamppost with distress markers and the water pen I then used glossy accents over the word snowman, the holly on his hat, his scarf and the light in the lamppost just to make them pop a bit.  I really love the scene that was created.

Metal Sheet Snowman

Here is a metal sheet that I embossed with the snowman embossing folder.  I then cut out the small pine tree Tim Holtz painting it with paint dabbers and then popped it up using pop dots.  I colored the background of the metal sheet using alcohol inks then stamped the star using archival ink.  I then proceeded by using turquoise stickles to make the snowflakes on the snowman stand out. The snowman and his hat are colored with alcohol inks as well.  I adhered the metal sheet to a white foam board in which I stamped the background trees with black archival ink as well as the deer.  I made the deer stamp using foam and the dye cut from Tim Holtz. I rough cut the top of it to simulate mountain terrain. The dark black stamping onto the white foam board made the ground appear as if it was covered in snow.  My sister bought this at my last show and she has it displayed in her home this holiday season.  :)
